To Move or Not to Move
The Great Hardelot vs. Sulzbach Showdown! 🌊🏡
🌊 Hardelot-Plage: Seashells and Horse Tails
Why It’s a Dreamy Seaside Escape:
Beachfront Bonanza: Waking up to the salty breeze and seagulls singing—sounds like a permanent vacation, right? Plus, our family house is ready and waiting. Mostly rent-free. 🏖️
Horses and Football: The girls can trot over to a nearby barn or show off their footwork on the local football team. With a bit of work, we could even bring our pony to stay with us at home—goodbye, boarding fees, hello daily mucking! 🐴⚽
Family Ties and French Vibes: We’re just a short drive from Boulogne-sur-Mer and only two hours from Paris. And if my mother’s health ever needs more care, she could move in, adding family support in return for a few requests for finer comforts. 💅🍲
But Wait, There’s a Catch:
Small Town Blues: Boulogne-sur-Mer isn’t exactly the bustling metropolis of my career dreams. While diverse beyond its fishing roots, the local economy has seen its share of ups and downs —a charming setting but maybe not the easiest for career growth.🐟
Driving Dilemmas: The house is charming, but getting anywhere (like school or sports) means revving up the car. Those scenic drives might get old faster than you can say, “Are we there yet?” 🚗
Parlez-vous Français?: Switching the kids from the German to the French school system could be a challenge. They’ve grown up in Germany, where their friends and social lives are rooted. Moving means some tough goodbyes and adjusting to a new language at school. 😬
🌳 Sulzbach: Bikes, Ponies, and Stability
Why It’s the Cozy Choice:
School and Friends: Noémie’s already rocking a great Gymnasium, and Zoé might join her soon (fingers crossed). Plus, after a decade here, this is where the girls’ friends, memories, and favorite playgrounds are.
Frankfurt Job Market: With Frankfurt practically next door, I’ve got access to a strong job market, which is no small perk when you’re job hunting.
Family-Friendly & Bikeable: The kids can bike to school, to sports, to meet friends—freedom on wheels! 🚴♀️ And did I mention our beloved pony is happily settled nearby?
Cons to Keep in Mind:
Housing Hunt: We’re looking to move, and finding a new home around here isn’t easy. Prices are high, and choices are slim—think of it as real estate limbo.
Future Plans for France: I’ve always imagined returning to France one day, and making a big investment in Germany right now might not align with those plans.
Split Household Logistics: My husband lives and works in Cologne, which adds an extra layer of consideration for any move. So, no matter which choice I make, this decision has its own set of logistics (and a little input from my fabulous readers, of course!)
Personal Ties (or Lack Thereof): While the kids are well-rooted here, my own connections are limited—I don’t have a job or close friends in Sulzbach, so there’s less holding me here outside of their stability.
So, What’s a Family to Do? To move or not to move?
The choice isn’t simple. Hardelot offers beachside charm, family ties, and rent-free living. But Sulzbach has the stability of good schools, easier career access, and lifelong friendships for the kids. Each town has its quirks, its charms, and yes, its fair share of challenges.
What Do You Think? Vote Now!
Option A: Beach life in Hardelot! 🏖️
Option B: Stick with the tried-and-true in Sulzbach! 🚲
Let’s see where everyone lands—should we chase waves and French vibes, or keep our German roots and stability? Voting ends in a week, and in the meantime, I’ll be preparing for a new adventure, wherever that may lead!
